This year’s Train Show will be bigger and better than ever. Several new vendors will be joining the returning vendors to broaden the selection and depth of items for sale. Two buildings at the Danny Jones Armory Complex will house the Train Show. There will be homemade baked goods, bar-b-que sandwiches, beverages and other treats available during the event. Several operating layouts will be on display featuring CAMRC‘s traveling O, HO and N scale modules plus Garden Railroad displays, live steam locos and high-flying radio-controlled aircraft.

The annual kick-off to the holiday season is coming soon. No, not the yearly fall visit of the Coastal Carolina Fair. I am talking about the Charleston Area Model Railroad Club’s train show. What would the holidays be without toy trains?

Model Railroad and Train ShowAs in past years, the show will be held at the Danny Jones Armory and Gymnasium, 5000 Lackawanna Blvd, North Charleston, SC 29405. This year looks to be a much bigger and better show with two buildings of vendors and displays. (Can we all get a shout of approval for the return of the displays?)

The dates of the show are Saturday and Sunday, November 8 and 9, 2014.

For more information, check out the Charleston Area Model Railroad Club’s website. You can also email them if you are interested in being a vendor.

COCO VIVO Fine Art & Interior Design of Charleston, SC, proudly announces a special holiday art show during the month of December. Angela Trotta Thomas, official artist of Lionel Train Corporation, will exhibit a collection of original oils depicting nostalgic toy train art. An exciting Christmas window scene will feature the Angela Trotta Thomas Signature Express toy train set traveling through a holiday snowy village. Angela’s powerful images are a mixture of Lionel trains, childhood, and the holiday season. This year’s train layout will be even bigger than last year’s display!

Angela Trotta Thomas - Lionel Three Amigos

A special invitation has been extended to kids of all ages to experience the magic of toy trains this Christmas. Meet Angela Trotta Thomas on Friday, December 6, 5:00 – 8:00 PM, at  COCO VIVO Gallery 25 Broad Street in downtown Charleston during a special artist reception. Join the artist and shop for a Jingle & Mingle holiday event and relive the memories of Christmases past. Angela will be handing out and signing the latest Lionel Christmas catalog. Angela’s latest artworks draw on memories of Lionel trains and a simpler time. She is creating still life paintings that combine Lionel trains with period objects that evocatively freeze time. Many paintings will depict Lionel trains of the era, and children playing with their favorite trains.

“Everybody loves trains,” said club president Ed Sharrett. “They also like the fact that we’re working on (the layouts), so they can see what we’re doing. We have people come back every week, and tourists–they come down here last year, then they come down here this year to see what we’ve got done.”

You can check out the club at their website listed above, or on the Grand Strand Model Railroaders FaceBook page.

And don’t forget that the Charleston show, sponsored by the Charleston Area Model Railroad Club will be held November 9 and 10, 2013.
