Norfolk Southern

The Southern Railway, a predecessor of Norfolk Southern, had a long and historic connection to Charleston. This dates all the way back to the The Best Friend of Charleston, which was the first locomotive built in the US to serve in regular passenger service. Norfolk Southern is aware and proud of this heritage and has honored it in many ways over the years.

If you are a fan of the current Norfolk Southern railroad, you may be interested in the Frograil Rail Tours site “Norfolk Southern – Ocean to Mountains” which detail the operations from Charleston, South Carolina, via what Norfolk Southern currently calls the SC-Line, to Andrews Yard in Columbia, South Carolina, and beyond that the W-Line from Andrews Yard to Spartanburg, South Carolina.
